Emergency Control Organization (ECO) Training

All members of the ECO, including the Chief Warden, Deputy Chief Warden, and other wardens, must receive training in their specific roles and responsibilities as detailed in the emergency response procedures.

The training should cover the emergency plan, communication methods, evacuation procedures, and other tasks specific to their roles during an emergency.

General Staff Training

All occupants of the facility, not just the ECO, should receive general emergency response training. This training includes recognizing the alarm signals, knowing the primary and secondary evacuation routes, and understanding the location and use of firefighting equipment.

Staff should be instructed on the importance of not using lifts during an emergency unless specifically designed and designated for evacuation purposes.

Frequency of Training

Initial training should be provided to new members of the ECO and new occupants of the facility as soon as practicable after their appointment or arrival.

Refresher training should be conducted at least annually for all staff, and more frequently for members of the ECO, to ensure skills and knowledge are current.

Training Records

The facility must maintain records of all training provided. These records should include details on the nature of the training, the date it was conducted, and the participants.

Training Content

Training must include instructions on what to do in specific types of emergencies that may affect the facility, such as fires, medical emergencies, or external threats.

Special Considerations

Special training considerations should be given to the needs of occupants with disabilities and other special needs to ensure that emergency procedures are inclusive and comprehensive.
